So when we come to the large inductance introduced by the long power supply cable used on a train (meters and meters!) with the really low impedance of a typical railway lead acid battery (yeah, train have battery): these two factors together, under startup or disconnection conditions for example, may significantly damage a poorly designed SMPS and the problem would show up only onboard the train, not in the laboratory-controlled environment if not specifically tested.
Once the EN50155 compliant circuit is designed, we simulate it with the appropriate CAD/CAE software to identify any foreseeable issues (transient analysis, smoke analysis, Monte Carlo analysis). Only after the PCB layout and prototype implementation for testing in the laboratory, climate chamber, EMC chamber and everywhere else, can the requirements of EN50155 be met”.
